Thetan Arena is a Free to Play and Play to Earn blockchain game that contrary to most "crypto games" you can actually play like.... right now. It is touted as one of the most played crypto games out there with an insane number of persons playing every day, and it has been touted and hyped by influencers and youtube personalities like Alex Becker and Hustle (who I highly respect). It currenly boasts 4 game modes: "Battle Royale" (solo or duo), "Death Match" (4vs4), "Super Star" (4vs4), and "Tower Destroy" (4vs4). The characters are cartoony looking and cool and come in NFT variety that you buy and can level up and trade, or a generic non tradeable NFT if you do not want to invest to play.
I will not dwell much in how much you can earn by playing the game because that is the issue, you have to play a lot to make significant amounts of money. This is where in my opinion Thetan Arena starts to tumble.
Gameplay is easy to pick up and controls are quite easy to use particularly in mobile (yes you can actually play this in your phone or tablet on Android and iOS), I found the windows version difficult to play but it may be due to me not being a PC gamer myself, although it is strange that there is no native game controller support. Even though matches take just a few minutes, you will find yourself grinding a lot to level up just be leveled down in a couple of bad matches which is extremely frustrating and made it less fun to play as hours and days passed, which takes me to the main issue which is medium and longterm "engagement". Even with the different play modes, which by the way are in essence similar, I could not keep myself engaged to make significant gains in money terms. Still, to avoid personal bias, I asked the most demanding critics for their opinion... : kids, specifically my kids who are an 11 yo boy and a 17 yo teenage girl, quite a good judge variety. I told them there was a game they would be paid to play which made their eyes wide open and demanded I download it to their tablet immediately.
Their veredict: "It´s ok", Adult translation: "We will just go back and play fornite, roblox and minecraft, EVEN if we (you) have to pay for it, thank you". My daughter insisted that I mentioned that Theta Arena´s matchamaking is literally "a pain in the ..."
