Maya Bay, Thailand

Boats, tourists (up to 5000 per day), and a beach that was, as they say, loved to death.  This is the story of Maya Bay in Thailand and in 2018 the government was forced to close the beach in an attempt to restore the damaged ecosystem. A team of  marine experts and volunteers worked to replant over 30,000 pieces of coral and approximately 50% of the replanted coral has survived and is starting to grow and spread on its own.

 In January of this year (2022) the beach has reopened, with limitations!
