The battle for Avdiivka like the battle for Bakmust has been a costly one in terms of casualties for both Russia and Ukraine. So the decision by Ukraine to withdraw from Avdiivka for the sake of reducing casualties of its troops is a good decision. Most of the city of Avdiivka has already been destroyed in the fighting that has already taken place. What is important to Russia is not so much the assets in the city but the pushing away of the frontier with Ukrainian forces. This teduces the shelling of Donetsk by Ukraine.
