This post will list 2 videos that not only explain BPD well but will mention the treatment that is used for BPD
Amygdala is the part of the brain that controls me when I suffer a meltdown or sensory overload.
Once the meltdown or Sensory overload occurs, the Amygdala has seized control and I am not rational and cannot control myself.
I fly to a blazing rage and can become violent. I will not harm or hit the person who caused me to reach that stage because she is a person I ❤️ very much.
Instead I take the anger out on myself and self harm.
I beat myself or the wall, table or hurl objects. I may repeatedly knock my head against the wall so hard that the bruise and pain last for a few days. Punching or slapping myself and getting nose bleed or scratching myself.
Such violence will frighten the other party and the argument that caused me to reach that stage will end.
The reason why I inflict physical pain is that it hurts less than the emotional pain I feel from the fear of abandonment.
Most of the time, I manage to stop my Amygdala from taking control. Just before the critical point is reached I tell myself "Sensory Overload" or "Amygdala Control" and walk away.
I may go for a walk or hide in the toilet to give myself time to cool down.
Walking is good because it burns off the energy rush from the spike in adrenaline.
Beating inanimate objects also has the effect of burning energy and releasing anger.
The above description of how BPD affect me 🦋 is well explained in the video
The acronym " I DESPAIR " in the above video explains what are the characteristics of BPD
