How would you feel if you loved someone but he takes you for granted or just consider you as a friend?
If after years of chasing him, and he still does not respond, will you give up on him?
Lobo has a song ,"Stoney"
He says that he has known Stoney since they were kids. In another line of the song he says that he does not remember when he first fell in love with Stoney. He just treated her as a friend. Stoney did not give up but was persistent in her love.
She shows her persistence in another part of the song.
Lobo and Stoney walked for hours in the sand. What picture comes to your mind? Do you see them holding hands and enjoying the presence of each other so much that they walked like that for hours?
The description by Lobo of that scene includes one extra word that changes the picture. He says that Stoney would always try to hold his hand. Why does Stoney have to keep trying to hold his hand?
If you keep telling someone you love him but he keeps rejecting you, what would you feel?
Will you go away if after trying for hours to console someone, he is still in a bad mood? Would it not be less stressful to go away and see him when he is in a better mood?
The times they walked for hours in the sand were when things were not going well for Lobo and when no one understood him (except Stoney). Stoney kept trying to hold his hand to console him but he kept letting go of her hand.
Stoney was persistent in her love for Lobo. She kept persueing him even when her love was one sided. She did not abandon him when he was in a bad mood and was unpleasant to be with. She kept trying to lift him up.
The love Stoney had for Lobo reminds me of the Love of God for us.
He loved us even when we did not love him.
John 3:16 says that God so loved the world (us) that he sent Jesus that whosoever receive Jesus will not perish but have everlasting life (be reconciled with God)
Jesus gave his life to pay the price of our sins so that we can be reconciled with God.
Hand of Jesus is stretched out to you. He wants to lift you up. He will not give up on you like how Stoney refused to give up on Lobo.
Jesus said " I have come that you may have life"
Receiving Jesus does not mean that all your problems will be solved.
Jesus promise to you is that He will never leave you or forsake you. He will be with you always to help you.
Do you want to receive what Jesus is offering to you. Or will you continue to do what Lobo did and refuse to let Jesus hold your hand?
Lobo realized he love Stoney who first loved him and kept on loving him.
We too can love God because He first loved us.
