Hello movie lovers. In this new edition of "FCN Movie Club" we will talk about a famous psychological thriller, combined with black humor and starring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt. It is directed by the genius of David Fincher and is currently remembered as a cult film for the generation of the 90s and the world of cinema. Despite its failure at the box office, this film received many positive reviews thanks to its incredible acting and direction. However, it has also been heavily criticized for its crude fight scenes, blood and sex. Personally, I admit to feeling regret for not having seen such a masterpiece sooner.

The film introduces us to an office worker who suffers from insomnia and, looking for some help, goes to various support groups in the city (despite not suffering from any terminal illness or having any addiction). There he meets a woman who does practically the same thing. However, they both talk before telling on each other and come to an agreement not to bother the other. He goes from plane to plane on business and on one of those trips he meets a guy who sells soaps and has a different way of looking at life than most people.

When our protagonist arrives at his apartment, he realizes he's exploded and calls the soap guy to have a drink with him. After that, they both let off steam with a little fight, which attracts people's attention. Later, the two form an underground fight group where some office workers, part-time and full-time employees, among others, fight each other and blow off steam, using this as a liberating means. However, this club will soon become something much more important to our protagonist than just an escape from reality.

I have several things to say about this movie, the truth is that the way it has been produced as well as the characters and performances are, undoubtedly, what fascinates me the most. I am not very familiar with David Fincher's work, but this film is surely one of his best works, which fascinates me when I see the way it is directed, with a style both classic and modern at the same time, a somewhat dark style of humor and a plot and story that in the end will leave you thinking a lot.

Although, yes, you will see fights and a lot of blood, this movie presents itself as a psychological thriller and rightly so. Apart from having a monologue style, which is done by the protagonist himself who also narrates the entire film, its way of breaking the fourth wall, the dialogues, the performances and the incredible denouement and ending are things that can literally blow your mind. And it is very rare to see a film of this style that combines so many psychological and comic elements with a raw, serious and dark style.

Among the incredible performances of the main characters, such as Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter, the one that blew my mind the most was Brad Pitt's work, which literally breaks with the classic stereotype of characters he usually plays (protagonist or attractive, rich and/or popular character). His character in this film can be categorized at the beginning as both genius and crazy, but in the end you are impressed by the tremendous development he shows us, finished being both a message and a reflection that will leave you thinking all night. Not everyone manages to achieve such an excellent interpretation of a main character as Brad did in this gem of cinematic culture.

Personally, I give it a well-deserved rating of 10/10 as far as the psychological thriller and dark comedy genre is concerned.
