My abortion story

I am 30 years old and I have never wanted children.

Three months into living with my partner  who also does not want children we found out I was pregnant. It was very upsetting because we took precautions. We talked about it and decided to continue with our plans that is  to terminate the pregnancy.

Please tell me her decision is right or wrong.

The iconic actor and singer Debbie Reynolds spoke candidly in a 1989 interview with Joan Rivers about two medically necessary abortions she underwent in the 1960s after experiencing miscarriages. The Singing in the Rain star explained that she was already a mom to two kids, including her daughter, Carrie Fisher, and wanted to have two more.
But seven months into Reynolds’s next pregnancy, she learned the fetus was a stillbirth. When a fetus dies before delivery, it can take two weeks or more for labor to begin on its own. Reynolds wanted to have the fetus removed — it was no longer viable. But this was before Roe, and abortion was illegal.

That was the law. It didn't matter," Reynolds said. "It had to abort itself — it could not be taken from me. It's insane to think that could be."
The doctors had planned to make her carry the stillborn fetus to term. It was only after the condition became life-threatening that doctors agreed to perform an abortion. Reynolds tried for a child again and the same thing happened   the fetus died inside her before delivery. This time, she insisted the doctors remove the fetus so that she wouldn’t nearly die again.

My decision is right or wrong about my abortion.

I already had two daughters. Neither was planned  and it never  ever  occurred to me to terminate those pregnancies. I was brought up with a very religious background. Now I’ve had two abortions  and if my family knew  my relationship with my family would be gone. My first was two years ago. My husband and I were having financial problems and were considering separating. I just had to shut my conscience down. The doctor was grotesque. He whistled show tunes. I could hear the vacuum sucking out the fetus alongside his whistling. When I hear show tunes now I shudder. Later he lost his license. A few months ago  I got pregnant again. My in laws have been helping us out financially so we have no choice but to involve them in our decisions. They gave us $500 cash to bring to the clinic. I felt very forced. I felt like I was required to have an abortion to provide for my current family. Money help is a manipulation. I’m crazy in love with my daughters imagine if I did that to them? It’s almost too much to open the door of guilt and shame because it’ll all overcome me. In the waiting room  there was a dead silence that’s hard to describe. Everyone was holding in her emotions to a heartbreaking degree. Truly pro life people should go light on the judgment  because shame motivates abortions.

My Abortion story

I’m 34 and I live in a part of Mexico where abortion is still not legal. Back in February I found out I was three weeks pregnant, first trough a home test, and then through a blood test done at a lab. When I got the results from the lab, I knew right away I didn’t want to be pregnant. I didn’t tell the father anything because we were not in a relationship, and I also didn’t want to justify of explain my actions to anyone. On my way back home, I started thinking about what I would do to end my pregnancy. I thought about traveling to Mexico City where you can get an abortion safely, but that was an expensive option for me. I then got in contact with a group of local feminists who use Facebook to guide other women through medicated at home abortions. I went to my nearest pharmacy to buy misoprostol. Even though you don’t need a prescription, the pharmacist didn’t want to sell it to me, so I went to another pharmacy. The other pharmacist was very kind and sold me the misoprostol with no problem (I paid $25 dollars for a box of 28 tablets). I also bought ibuprofen, pads, and electrolytes. I went back home and before taking the first dose of misoprostol, I decided to call my sister who lives in California and who had had an abortion at Planned Parenthood a couple of years before. She was very supportive and helpful. I then took two doses of misoprostol and began to bleed lightly. I also got cramps, fever, and diarrhea but these symptoms only lasted through the night. In the end, I only took 3 doses of misoprostol because that seemed to work.  The bleeding went on for days. After 10 days I was still bleeding and I went to my OB/GYN and told her the story. She was very kind and told me that she was not going to report me to the authorities, and that I needed an ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy was terminated. We did that and sure enough, there was no more pregnancy; I was relieved. She also gave my a prescription for an antibiotic to avoid any infections. In total, I bled for 15 days and it took a while for my period to come back. I’m happy that I had no complications and that I had the resources to buy the medication and pay for my visit to my OB/GYN. However, it saddens me that I had to risk my wellbeing and that I had to do this alone at home because it was the only choice I really had. Abortion should be legal, safe and free for every woman that decides to terminate her pregnancy.

My abortion story

When I got pregnant with my son my very controlling boyfriend had convinced me that birth control poisoned my body. We usually slept in the car. I took a pregnancy test peeing over the kind of bucket you mix concrete in outside a dilapidated  vacant house. I decided I couldn’t abort a baby based on a stupid decision I made. They tell you that you love the baby automatically  but it’s not true. Then, in 2008  I was pregnant by my boyfriend Steve. We worked together at Target. He wanted to get married and have the baby. I was barely supporting the son I had  still living with my parents. I didn’t want to be tied to Steve forever. My mom and I went to Planned Parenthood. It was pouring rain. The picketers met us at the car with disgusting pictures. I was quite emotional  but I was so scared that if I showed any emotions  they wouldn’t let me do it. I told them I already had a baby. The doctor acted like it was assembly line work. I told Steve I miscarried. We dated another year. The secret was devastating. People might be more understanding if I’d had an abortion when I was living in a car in an abusive relationship. This time  I was on birth control  with a full time job a boyfriend. People might think I should’ve kept it  but I couldn’t.a

When I was in college

I found out I was pregnant when I was at college  my contraception had failed. And I knew straight away that I wanted to have an abortion. I had big plans and children weren’t part of them.

Even though I was completely confident in my choice to have an abortion I only told a few people at the time. Looking back  I did feel silenced  simply because it wasn’t something people spoke about.
