The answer depends who you ask. Answers given by experts and influential people range from 500 million to 5 billion.

LESS MAN MORE SHARE.

The 🌍  has finite resources. The resources of the 🌍 has to support its population.

The lower its population the bigger the share per person.

If you ask a very rich person who consumes 1000X  the current average of the world's production divided by its population you will get a low figure for the ideal population size.

Based on the lifestyle of the poorer people the 🌍  can support over 10 billion people.

Can science and technology boost production and make more efficient use of the 🌍's resources so that it can support a figure that is higher than 10 billion?

Is the earth currently  overpopulated?

The 🌍 can be overpopulated but it will deplete its resources and so reduce the size of the sustainable population.

Having a population higher than the sustainable population will eventually lead to depopulation.

Where are we currently?

The current population of the 🌍 is around 7 billion. In terms of sustainability, we are not in the immediate danger of depopulation. 🦋

Sustainable population is different from Ideal population. The ideal population has to be lower than the Sustainable population. How much lower?

As mentioned earlier the amount will depend on who you ask.

Who will have more power to decide on the figure? The rich, powerful, and influential people or the lower class people of the world?

The answer given by an influential  person is

Professor Paul Erlich is the professor of population studies at Stanford University.  He is considered  as the most renowned  person  on population studies.

According to him the ideal is between 1.5 billion to 2 billion. He says that 4 or 5 billion is sustainable but the quality of life will be low.

He is calling for a huge reduction in the population  of the 🌍  and for the redistribution of its resources.

Do you agree with him?

What do you think is the ideal population of the 🌍 ?

The range given by influential people ranges from 500 million to 5 billion. Even if you take the highest figure of 5 billion people, it will require the current population to be reduced by 2 billion. Roughly 1/3 of the current population.

What are some of the ways such a depopulation can take place quickly?

How can depopulation take place slowly say over 50 years?

Is 50 years too slow and the world will be in crisis before 50 years has passed?
