I remember that when I was a child , I was treated with deworming medicine. While passing out a worm, the worm got stuck. It was dangling out of my anus. My mother had to pull it out.
According to The POST linked, a tapeworm can grow up to 30 feet long.
The worm that I had was probably less than 2 feet.

Tapeworm can live in a host for years without symptoms. As it live and grow, it robs us of nutrients and so we may suffer nutrition deficiency.
On the other hand tapeworm can also get out of our intestines and cause severe harm to us. Examples of such complications are
- Organ function disruption is a risk when larvae invade your liver, heart, eyes or lungs.
- Neurological symptoms can occur when larvae invade your central nervous system, including headaches, seizures, confusion, meningitis and brain swelling.
Adult tapeworms cannot survive outside the body of its host which can be a human or an animal.
The poop of the host contain tapeworm eggs. These eggs can survive and get ingested by a next host.
Another way tapeworm can spread is by the consumption of raw or undercooked meat including fish.
