Dusk by the fishing boat- A Chinese song played on non Chinese Instruments
Aug 12, 2022 6:33 AM
The musical instruments used in the video are not traditional Chinese Instruments.
The song itself can be said to be Chinese
"Western" music has different elements from "Chinese" music.
Based on the elements we can say that a song is "Western" (A generalisation as there are a lot of differences in so called "Western" music) or is "Indian" or "Chinese"
For example in the song below there are parts where the flow of notes on the harp as the player glides her hand over the strings is just like that in Guzheng (a traditional Chinese musical instrument)
An example of differences in elements is the way notes are strung together. Different cultures prefer different sequences.
Other differences can be beats and tempo such as preference for staccato compared to a graceful flow.
Musicians who are exposed to different cultures sometimes include different cultural elements into a piece .
