SUMMARY OF THE WEEKLY CHAT - 57th edition

After a week of Easter break, we are back to discuss about BBS .

The  57th edition of the Weekly Chat was an interesting one and we touched many good and important subjects.

Last week we saw that the BBS admin team have approved the new  EM boards and  decided to remove some of the old boards from the program. 

The new approved board for EM is actually only one single board : CINEMAX. They have fulfilled the criteria for this and successfully been approved for the EM program

Congratulations!

For some boards, this announcement wasn’t the best thing that happened. 

The boards like BANTER, VILA, CHARTS AND UUNET, have been removed from the EM. This is sad because once they were very popular and had a good potential.

Sadly the board owners didn’t care too much and had to face the consequences. 

This resembles the fact that  the community administration has to be motivated , to stay close to the members and show interest. 

In some of the removed boards, the board owner wasn’t present for months, maybe even a year. 

It is sad to see a successful community declined ( it is  true that the content wasn’t the best, but once upon a time Banter community, because I talk about it, was the heart of BBS. Since moths it is a dead community where only few members are posting and interacting). 

Maybe the board owner should have preserved it and handed it over to someone interested in keeping it active. 

We saw 2 examples where board owners have stepped down and transferred their ownership to someone else who was interested to take over. 

This is also a message for everyone to understand that the EM for a board is not guaranteed forever and as a partnership, it can always be revoked. 

On the other hand , Eyal mentioned that old boards dying and new boards creating  is something  natural and should not bother anyone. 

Maybe an old board dying is an opportunity for a new one rising. 

Back to ownership :it is  possible to suggest having a  democratic community where the members are entitled to vote for the board administration. Maybe choose a delegator to represent them . This leads me to the word  Union - a community who has a union so it function democratic  because right now it is a kind of dictatorship ( if I have to quote Eyal). 

This should have been a hot topic as we can see that the whole BBS is sleeping and not waking up . But, we didn't have too much time to discuss it, although Eyal mentioned that they are not ready to do  any marketing for BBS. 

Why ?

Per my understanding, from Eyal's speech,  BBS is not going to do any marketing until they have some successful communities. Communities that have a good content and genuine discussions. 

We all were wondering why BBS is not promoted by the team? Why the team is not making any marketing. 

Well,  I think we found the real answer. 

This makes sense because as long as we have thousands of communities on BBS and none of them is amazing in content, BBS will not start doing any marketing campaign promotion  something that is not qualitative. 

We get back to the board owners - they , the moderation team and the community members have the duty to create unique, qualitative and exciting posts for the readers. 

Eyal reminded us that  their target for the road map is : 

Creating a Premium Content Service is a  motivation for people to create better and unique content because they can create Premium content and allow just the subscribers to see it. Subscriber who will pay  a monthly fee to have access to that Premium Content. 

We are looking forward to seeing it implemented and using it. I hope it has the expected effect that is promised. 

But the most expected feature by the members and board admins is the Cash tipping. 

Cash tipping is a necessary feature implementation to change and balance the BBS rewards. Because , as long as there is a share of rewards, everyone wishes to have some. 

This feature will be an excellent tool to reward and recognize a genuine comment or post. 

For a good transparency for this there is taking in consideration to see how much the income was shared in the community - to see the exact percentage of how much the admin shares with the community.  

A new idea is raised : to create new parameters for rewards based on the total number of unique visitors- not only registered members. 

The boards that are able to generate more traffic will get more of the rewards. 

This came up in discussion now, because before , the  BBS team could not have a real number of the total number   members who visited BBS - no matter if they were members or not. 

Now it is possible to see that number and can easily be used as a parameter. 

The idea sounds good because the more traffic you bring to your board the more community is growing. Not specially growing as a number of members, but in popularity. 

I kind of agree to try this , but what will be the real parameters for this?

How will the rewards be distributed ? Based on how many unique visitors per day? 

A new feature having multiple accounts is in plan. 

How is that possible? 

Isn’t it considered fraud? 

This feature can be allowed by using multiple accounts created with different email addresses if you are an owner of multiple  boards and you want to have a profile for each board. You can do this and let the BBS team know.

You can even open different browsers and log in with one account for each community you moderate. 

This is provisory named managerial accounts. 

Do you agree with this? 

Isn’t this against what we fought for mitigating fraud? 

Some people can be honest, but some people can take advantage of it and use it as an excuse to commit fraud. 

Some of us do not think that’s beneficial for BBS and allowing this will encourage people to make multiple accounts. 

Other people including the CEO of BBS agreed that this will not be harmful as long as it will be transparent with the admin team. 

But because we are in a  pilot phase, as we like to say, we can try this too. 

What can we lose? This will be another challenge so we never get bored 😜. 

. 

If Facebook, Twitter and other social media allow you to have a business account and  private account, why not to have on BBS as well? 

I personally don’t agree at all and I consider this will bring more chaos and confusion.
