Version 4.0.2 focuses on refining the promotion and reputation mechanics, introducing big changes to how Reputation is earned.
What is promoting a post?
Post promotion is the method used to curate content across BBS Network. Members can stake their reputation in order to predict how many views a post will receive in an open process. Posts with higher predictions are ranked higher on the board. Promoters must stake their reputation to predict post views, and will also receive one reputation for each view the post receives during the promotion period.
Promoting a post can earn or cost reputation depending on the post and the prediction. A post that is predicted to receive 100 views, but ends up receiving 150 views will generate more reputation than that was staked for the promotion. Conversely, if a post is predicted to receive 100 views, but only receives 50 then the amount of reputation staked will be greater than the amount of reputation the post has generated.
How does Prediction work after Phase 4?
Posts across BBS Network are ranked by their current promoter’s prediction. Posts are published without a promoter, and will start with no prediction at 0 reputation staked. Publishers have the opportunity to become the post’s promoter during its creation.
Posts start with no prediction, and the first prediction made must be at least 10 views.
The minimum prediction for subsequent promotions must be higher than the current number of views, and at least 30% higher than the current prediction.
The max prediction is determined by the current number of views and your current available reputation.
To encourage quick predictions, ⅓ of the difference between the selected prediction and the minimum will be discounted from the required staked amount
Ex.: If the minimum prediction is 100 views, and the selected prediction is 130, only 120 staked reputation will be required
Examples:
Post A is promoted by predicting a minimum 100 views by staking 100 reputation. Each view the post receives will generate 1 Reputation for the promoter.
- If Post A receives 101 views, then the promoter will have gained a net total of 1 Reputation for promoting the post. (+1 Reputation Total)
- If post A receives only 50 views, then the promoter will be at a net loss of 50 Reputation (-50 Reputation Total)
- If post A receives only 5 views, but is then promoted by someone else, then the promoter will receive a total of 110 Reputation: 5 reputation from views during promotion, and 105 with the new promotion. (+10 Reputation Total)
- If post A receives 120 views, and is then promoted by someone else, then the promoter just keeps the 120 Reputation gained from the views. (+20 Reputation Total)
Publishers will also have the ability to promote their own post during creation.
This will allow publishers to utilize any applicable discount to their promotion and make sure they have the chance to promote their post first.
Publishers will also receive one reputation for each view their post receives along with the promoter.
