Looking forward to letters from my friend

The song "Please Mr Postman" resonated with me during my teenage years.

Whenever the postman passed my house, I hoped that he had a letter from my friend. ✉️

Back in the days when we still learned the British Imperial system, some one who eventually became a friend of mine told me :He who thinks by the yard, but does by the inch, deserve to be kicked by the foot.That saying applies well to me because inaction on my part has caused me to underperform in life.The saying was given to me in an autograph the friend wrote for me. We studied for 2 years in a tuition class. I developed a crush for her but was so shy and had such a gigantic inferiority complex that I did not dare to talk to her.A few months before the end of the 2 years, I passed a note to her that said
