Box Office: ‘Monkey Man,’ ‘First Omen’ Coming in Lower Than Expected as Godzilla x Kong
Apr 6, 2024 5:21 PM

Dev Patels feature directorial debut Monkey Man is successfully fighting off The First Omen at the domestic box office but both films are coming in lower than expected according to Saturday estimates.
Neither genre film has any chance of taking away the No. 1 spot from Warner Bros. and Legendarys Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire which is a huge victory for the MonsterVerse series at a time when many franchises are struggling to remain fresh. One problem overall a glut of male skewing projects. Although The First Omen hopes to lure younger women as well.
My thoughts:
I think it is pretty cool that Dev Patel is making his feature directorial debut with Monkey Man. A John Wick style revenge thriller set in India sounds like a unique concept. It is exciting to see actors branching out into different roles behind the camera. As for the box office performance it seems like both Monkey Man and The First Omen did not meet the initial expectations. However it is impressive that Godzilla vs. Kong is still holding strong at the top spot. It is refreshing to see a successful franchise in a time when many others are struggling. It's also worth noting that there seems to be a lot of male skewing projects in the mix. Hopefully The First Omen can attract a broader audience including younger women. Overall it is always interesting to see how movies perform at the box office and I am curious to see how these films will fare in the coming weeks. 🎥🍿
