But really, I can't see Uranus.
Instead, I can see Jupiter and Venus
It's a shame the telegraph pole is in the way, here you can see them clearer.
We have perfect clear skies tonight (and temperatures of -6Β°C to match) to see stars and even planets.
So I got my app to check what I am looking at.. I was correct, Jupiter and Venus π But look there too is Uranus just some distance away.. I can't see it in the sky though..
I can however also see Mars, from the other side of my house, there with a hint of red, and near to Orion's belt.
I messaged my Dad. We are cut from the same cloth, and he right away sent back a photo too of Jupiter and Venus, from his house an hour away. It's nice to know we are a while away but can look at the exact same thing at the same time.
Maybe some of you here can post some photos in the coming days of what you can see in your night sky.
I am sure @mmk will let us link the posts together as a little library of our own, a stargazing journal.

It does contain some ads, but you can calibrate it to your own location and see live movement of satellites, and even place the visual over your own camera like a filter to check what you are looking at. There are also options to look at the sky live, and check what is visible for you tonight, and the best windows to see it. π

Science & TechnologyIn a way it's an uncomfortable topic, not because it involves breasts ππ€ but because not everyone can successfully breastfeed, and in that case, thank goodness we have the world of science to create formula milk for babies π
By now I have breastfed 4 kids, so have a good real life experience, but some science facts related to breastfeeding are amazing.
For example, "Breast milk contains about 3.5 g of fat per 100 ml of milk, which provides about one half of the energy content of the milk." Fat is an incredibly important energy source for growing babies (and also makes them extra cute π).
Also "Breast milk contains about 7 g lactose per 100 ml, which is more than in most other milks, and is another important source of energy".
Another interesting thing about breastmilk is the protein content. "Among the whey, or soluble proteins, human milk contains more alpha-lactalbumin; cow milk contains beta-lactoglobulin, which is absent from human milk and to which infants can become intolerant."
Interestingly, although breastmilk itself does not contain this, proteins from cow's milk consumed by the mother transfer through to baby. The quantities can even be enough to result in breastfed babies having reactions to the breastmilk if they have cow's milk allergy. 2 of my own children had this, and reactions were so severe that I had to eliminate cow's milk from my own diet to protect them.
In the same way medications from mother can also be transferred to baby, such as codeine, among others, which to be avoided.
And yet, other things are known not to transfer to baby very well, such as paracetamol, and amazingly vitamin D is almost completely absent from breastmilk, resulting in breastfed babies (in the UK at least) being recommended to take a vitamin D suppliment from birth.

What interests me about it is how the balls are in motion, and how their momentum changes.
Momentum is a term that describes the strength of a moving object. Objects that are not moving, do not have any momentum. Things that are moving have less momentum if they are lightweight or moving slowly and the opposite is true if they are moving fast or are heavy.
Momentum can be calculated as mass x velocity.

In @mmk's game, momentum is what keeps the ball moving unless he stops it.
Here you can see another example in this excellent video of Newton's cradle. When one ball hits the other, it grants it the momentum to move, and so they go back and forth, dancing to the beat.
But there is more.. today I took my kids to the park. My son's both love to spin. They could spend days spinning and never getting dizzy. In the video you can see my little one perform another type of momentum, called angular momentum.
Angular momentumβ is when an object spins around, as in a top, instead of proceeding in a straight line.

This is the same type of momentum that planets have to keep spinning.

I bring the gift of a Youtube video, a clip of Russian Konstantin Kisin speaking at the Oxford Union for a debate on the motion "This House Believes Wokeness Has Gone Too Far.
There are so many things I would love to unpick and discuss from the video (aside from how damaging Wokeness is π).
I've said it before, and i'll repeat it forever until I die, the solution to the world's greatest problems, is to solve poverty. In a similar way, this guy touches on this notion that you simply cannot vow to solve climate change through expecting poor people and poor nations to stay poor. Instead, we must rely on science and new technologies to bring clean and cheap energy, so we can reduce fossil fuels and carbon emissions, reduce waste, and clean up our world πππ
You don't have to be woke to be a climate activist, after all. In fact it helps more if you're not ππ
Let's hope the world can work together to make zero carbon and zero waste solutions cheaper and more readily available to allπ3y

Science & TechnologyTonight I saw Esam95 shared some really cool science facts about bees, and it reminded me of my favourite episode of a really cool tv series that aired in the UK a few years ago. It is called Inside Nature's Giant's and basically it was a science show that showed the dissection of incredible animals. The animals had always died, they weren't killed for the show, just to be clear, it wasn't cruel. But it was a fascinating way to discover more about some of the most unusual animals on the planet.
My favourite episode is about the cassowary, one of the largest living birds, also condsidered to be the most dangerous bird on earth.
In fact, this image β¬οΈ is taken from a news story in which a man is reported to have been killed by 2 cassowaries he raised. They have a sharp dinosaur like talon and an incredibly strong kick.
The Cassowary is mostly found in Australia and they tend to be very solitary creatures. But one of the reasons I like them best is that they are 1 of very few species whereby the male hatches the egg and raises the young, while mama cassowary takes some time out for herself π€ If you know of more, tell me in the comments π
