The Bundesliga has good teams like Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach. Over the last 11 years, Bayern won every year. But after 25 games in the Bundesliga Leverkusen has been unbeaten. They have an astonishing defense with 6 clean slates (not conceding any goals in the match) and conceding a total of 16 goals only.

In the round of 16, Qarabag did what the Bundesliga teams find so hard to do - freely score goals against Leverkusen. 4 goals in 2 matches compared to the total of 16 in 25 matches.

Not only is Leverkusen unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season, it is also unbeaten in all competitions.

Qarabag took 2-0 leads in both the first leg and the 2nd legs. For both matches Leverkusen managed to score stoppage time goals to make the score 2-2.

6 minutes was added at the end of regulation time. Leverkusen was trialing 1-2 at that time. In that added time Leverkusen scored to level 2-2 just like they have done so in the 1st leg. At the end of the 6 minutes of added time, the score remained at 2-2. The referee did not end the match but allowed it to go on.  In the next minute Leverkusen scored again to make the final score 3-2.

If a team was in a position to score in the dying seconds it is questionable whether the referee should stop the match exactly at the last second just as the final shot is about to be made.

However this was not the case in the match between Leverkusen and Qarabag. He allowed the match to go on for 4 more minutes after the added 6 minutes ended.

Did he forget to look at his watch. Some upset Qarabag fans says that the referee was bought off.

For those who missed the exciting match, here is a summary:

Leverkusen had many chances in the first half to go ahead. In the opening few minutes B Inglesias shot over the top of the crossbar twice. In the 9th minute a shot did not go in and Hincapio got to the rebound. His shot was near the left post but on the outside instead of inside. 😨 In the 17th minute Adli's shot had power but was straight at the goal keeper. J Frimpong's shot at goal in the 34th minute lacked power and Qarabag players had enough time to stop the ball from crossing the goaline. During added time for the 1st half A Lunia headed over the crossbar. The half ended 0-0. πŸ¦‹ 1 minute after the restart Frimpong tried to get a penalty. There was some contact between him and a defender. He dropped when he felt that contact. The referee was not taken in. In the 58th minute, Zoubir scored the first goal of the match. In the 61st minute, Frimpong's shirt was pulled by E Cafarguliyev. VAR showed that Carfar was the last defender who could stop Frimpong. Carfar's card was changed from Yellow to πŸ”΄ In spite of having 1 player less, Qarabag scored through Juninho to get a 2 goal lead again. In the 72nd minute Frimpong scored to pull 1 back for Leverkusen. They were not able to score for the rest of the regulation time. With just 6 minutes of time being added, it looked like Leverkusen which had trouble scoring would lose their unbeaten record this season. P Shick scored a brace which gave Leverkusen victory. This victory is controversial because only the first of the brace was within the 6 minutes of added time. DO YOU THINK THAT QARABAG WAS ROBBED? Qarabag has played for more than half an hour since Carfar was sent off. The rest of the players have to work harder to cover. Scoring 1 goal in the added time levelled the match. If another 30 minutes of extra time had to be played, Qarabag players who already had to work harder will struggle. It is likely that Leverkusen would score in the extra time. πŸ¦‹ DO YOU AGREE?
