Roles of a BBS moderator
Moderators help to keep the community safe and ensure the environment in the Wonderland Pond is a positive and friendly place for frogs to interact. They also make sure their space is organised as much as possible and help guide visitors on their discovery to find interesting or helpful content.
Make newbies feel welcome, help to onboard them by answering initial questions they may have, hide inappropriate posts that violate community guidelines, give fudders, spammers and shitposters warnings or ban them if necessary, and highlight particularly helpful contributions by pinning and sharing them.
Functionality and tools for moderators
At present, assigning the role of moderator to a user gives him or her one additional function for managing content: hiding posts. You will see this option in the top right corner of every post after clicking on the three dots.
Moreover, an owner of a channel (category by topic) has the ability to pin a post at the top of the channel page. This should be a channel menu or highlight best content, while updated regularly (see our guide on creating channels here). Therefore, it will be the channel owner's task to create a channel menu and keep an eye on content in the channel that deserves being highlighted.
And of course, the main tools are posts and comments for general moderation. Monitor content posted in your channel, interact with your community, encourage engagement, discourage bad behaviour and ban users where necessary.
At the user level, moderators have options to manage users. Click on the user to go to his or her profile page. At the top right of the profile, click on the settings icon.
Become a WLPOND moderator
First join the WLPOND community and demonstrate that you are an active, engaged user who makes valuable contributions and does not violate community guidelines.
When you feel you have a solid track record - give it perhaps a week or two at least - reach out to a community moderator, stating that you'd like to become a moderator and which channels you'd like to be in charge of.
Note that at present it is not possible to transfer a channel to a new owner, though we hope this feature will be available in the future. Therefore, while you can monitor content in existing channels, you won't be able to pin posts or edit channel settings. Until this is possible, you can either create an own channel (see more info on how to and rules for creating a channel here) or become a "general" moderator who monitors activities across the BBS or in a specific channel.
The moderator will get back to you after checking your application, generally within 24 to 48 hours.
Who is a moderator, whom can you reach out to? Check our list of current moderators here.
