Terminator

A lot of closure at the end of this filmI had the opportunity to watch Terminator Dark Fate at the Enfield IMAX, which is smaller than the ones in central London but also much more affordable.

Just to clarify, this is a non-spoiler review, but I will be mentioning some notes on the visual effects and production. The good news is that I found this sequel to be quite thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable. As a self-proclaimed Terminator fan, all my friends know how much I love the original film.

However, T2 Judgment Day is undoubtedly one of the greatest sequels of all time and set the bar for action films and visual effects after its release in 1991. For me personally, every sequel that followed T2 has been a bitter disappointment. The only one that had some redeeming qualities in terms of action and story was Salvation.
I have to admit, I was quite critical of Tim Miller, despite loving his work on Dead Pool. When I saw the first trailer for Dark Fate, I thought he had made another misfire like Genysis. However, he has proven me wrong and broken the curse of terrible sequels in this franchise. Now, I don't want to get too ahead of myself with this review. While this film is definitely the third best in the franchise, it doesn't come close to the brilliance of the first two films.
However, it is a solid sequel, and my interest was solely due to Linda Hamilton's return. But I must say, the entire cast is on point, and even Arnold is back in top form. However, the standout performance for me was Mackenzie Davis as Grace, a resistance footsoldier. The new target, Natalia Reyes as Dani Ramos, is also quite good, but Gabriel Luna gives his best as the new villain, the Rev 9. He does a great job, but he falls short in comparison to Robert Patrick's iconic performance as the T-1000.
Tim Miller shows his mastery in directing action films and pacing. As someone who used to work in visual effects, it's not surprising that the majority of the effects work in this film is excellent and well-rendered. However, there are a few instances where it falls short, but I found it forgivable considering the amount of visual effects used in the film.In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. However, I understand that the new story, which was co-written by James Cameron, may not be for everyone. Without giving away too much, I will say that there is a lot of closure in this film, which may be polarizing for some viewers.
