16 just held such better days
I'm reminded about this song as I was saying here that I saw Blink 182 live in Dublin on the last night of their European tour right before their haitus. In the car on the long drive home that night I cried and thought to myself, "the tour was over, i'd survived". I was 15 (I think π€) and I waited so long for it and thought it was such a big deal, I didn't know what will happen after I finally saw the band. What would I do with my life next.. π€ I sort of laugh now, that is how you know you learnt some perspective later in life. Something might seem big now, but in a few months or few years you're like π€·ββοΈ We have a saying in my house, "it's a bad day, not a bad life". And sometimes it's a lot of bad days, but many days is not a lifetime, and not worth throwing away.
It was always rumoured the song was written after a kid called Adam killed himself and his mom found a letter with these references. I think the saddest part is "please tell mom this is not her fault" π₯ But when you really listen, Adam didn't kill himself, he survived and had hope for the future. There is a switch from past tense to present/future "tomorrow holds such better days. Days when I could still feel alive, when I can't wait to get outside, the world is wide". π«Ά
Also, shame on you if you don't know the Nirvana reference π
