The fifth and sixth places, each valued at 45 million euros, go to Turkish midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu, 30, and South Korean star Son Heung-min, 31. No goals so far for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the ongoing Euro 2024 and Copa America 2024.

Cristiano Ronaldo participated in three matches with Portugal in Euro 2024, while Lionel Messi led Argentina in two matches and sat out the third in the group stage of Copa America. The result for both stars was zero goals. Both Ronaldo and Messi delivered average performances with poor statistics in the European Championship and Copa America, currently held in Germany and the United States, respectively. Despite this, both Portugal and Argentina successfully advanced to the next rounds of their respective tournaments. Argentina topped Group A in Copa America 2024 with a perfect score of 9 points from three wins against Canada, Chile, and Peru. Portugal advanced from the top spot in Group F with six points from victories over Turkey and the Czech Republic. Argentina will face the runner-up from Group B, likely either Mexico or Ecuador, in the Copa America quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the 2016 European champions Portugal will play against Slovenia in the Euro 2024 round of 16 today in Frankfurt. Messi did not manage to score despite Argentina netting five goals in the group stage, having participated in the first two matches against Canada and Chile. This marks the first time in his career that Messi has failed to score in the opening matches of a tournament. Ronaldo's performance was similarly underwhelming. He failed to score in the three group stage matches against Turkey, Georgia, and the Czech Republic. This is the first time in his career that Ronaldo has not scored in the group stage of the European Championship, having scored at least one goal in each of the five previous editions during the group stage. Euro 2024 represents Ronaldo's worst performance in terms of goal contributions in the tournament. He only provided one assist in three matches, a stark contrast to his six goal contributions in the group stage of Euro 2020. It seems we are witnessing the decline of Ronaldo and Messi's international careers, as this may be the last European Championship and Copa America for the 39-year-old Ronaldo and 38-year-old Messi. source

Argentina Defeats Peru to Top Their Group in Copa America:

Lautaro Martínez continued his stellar form with the Argentine national team in the Copa America, guiding the World Cup champions to a perfect record in the group stage of the tournament currently being held in the United States. Argentina defeated Peru 2-0 on Saturday evening local time (Sunday)  in the third (final) round of Group A in the tournament. Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez finished a smooth attack in the 47th minute by calmly chipping the ball over Peru's goalkeeper Pedro Gallese. He repeated the feat in the 86th minute, scoring his second goal after a defensive error by the opponent. Martínez expressed his happiness, saying he was glad to have scored in all three group stage matches and to have been able to help the team. He added that he felt great after having an excellent season with his club and was ready to move past the frustration he experienced during the World Cup. Argentina had already secured their place in the quarterfinals before the match in Miami by defeating Canada and Chile in the first two rounds. Securing qualification allowed Argentina to rest key players, including team captain Lionel Messi, who is recovering from a thigh injury sustained during the win over Chile. In my opinion, the Argentine national team enters the 2024 Copa America as the defending champions and the strongest contender to win the title for the second consecutive time. Despite their surprising defeat to Uruguay, which raised some doubts about their ability to retain their title, Argentina quickly bounced back, topping their group with a perfect record. This reaffirms their strength and high potential to win the championship. SOURCE

Italy Bids Farewell to the Euro:

In a shocking turn of events, Switzerland eliminated the defending Euro champions, Italy, with a 2-0 victory. The Swiss team delivered an outstanding performance in today's match, thanks to the players who were instrumental in leading their team to the quarterfinals of the European competition. Unlike their previous showings in the group stage, Italy, under their new coach Luciano Spalletti, seemed unable to keep up with their opponents. This round of 16 exit marks their worst result in the European Championships since they were ousted in the group stage in 2004. It was also their first loss to Switzerland since 1993 in the qualifiers for the 1994 World Cup. Italy's presence in this match was largely due to Mattia Zaccagni, who scored a crucial equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw and a spot in the knockout stages at the expense of Croatia in the final round of Group B matches, which Italy finished second behind Spain. The encounter with Switzerland was seen as a chance for revenge for the four-time World Cup winners. Switzerland had previously denied Italy direct qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by topping their qualifying group, forcing Italy into the playoffs where they were subsequently knocked out by North Macedonia in a shock 1-0 defeat, with the decisive goal coming in stoppage time. Before their meetings in the Qatar 2022 qualifiers, which ended in a 0-0 draw and a 1-1 draw, Italy's Jorginho missed a penalty in both matches. As I predicted before the tournament, Italy would be the biggest disappointment among the major teams in this Euro. Italy was eliminated because their performance was truly poor. Since entering the tournament, they failed to impress, and instead of improving, they regressed with each match, disappointing their fans. Italy boasts some of the best players and a passionate fanbase, but unfortunately, the team lacked the spirit and drive to win. source

The Strangest Team in the Premier League:

Crystal Palace is considered one of the most peculiar and consistent teams in the Premier League over the past decade. Each season, they finish in mid-table positions, between 10th and 15th place, never exceeding these bounds, whether moving up or down. Here are some moments that highlight the uniqueness of this team: Consistency in Rankings and Points 🟥🟦 Over the past 10 years, Crystal Palace has consistently maintained a points tally between 40 and 50 by the end of the season. Even when they are close to surpassing the 50-point mark, they unexpectedly lose all remaining matches. Disrupting Liverpool in the 2013/2014 Season 🟥🟦 In the 2013/2014 season, Liverpool was strongly competing for the league title and was leading Crystal Palace 3-0. However, Crystal Palace made a remarkable comeback in the last 15 minutes to draw 3-3, significantly damaging Liverpool's title hopes. Spoiling Steven Gerrard's Farewell in 2015 🟥🟦 In 2015, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard played his last match at Anfield in front of his home fans. Crystal Palace spoiled the occasion by defeating Liverpool 3-1, dampening the farewell celebrations. Victories at Old Trafford 🟥🟦 In the past five years, Crystal Palace has managed to defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford three times, a rare achievement for any team outside the top clubs. A Team That Neither Competes for Titles Nor Gets Relegated 🟥🟦 Crystal Palace seems to exist to spoil the big moments for other teams, without competing for titles or facing relegation. They have the knack for upsetting the top teams with unexpected results while consistently finishing in mid-table positions. Summary Crystal Palace embodies a unique mix of consistency and unpredictability in the Premier League. They are not a big team challenging for trophies, nor are they a weak team struggling to stay up. Instead, they consistently perform well enough to stay mid-table and have a reputation for disrupting the ambitions of the top teams, making them one of the strangest yet most stable teams in the Premier League over the last decade. source source

5 Young Players to Watch in Euro 2024 💯

Lamine Yamal (Spain, 16 years old)Lamine Yamal is one of the most promising young talents in football, breaking several records at a young age with Barcelona and the Spanish national team. He made his debut for Barcelona at 15 and became the youngest goal scorer in La Liga at 16 years and 87 days old. He is also the youngest player to play and score for Spain. If Spain reaches the final, Yamal will have just turned 17. Last season, he played 50 matches across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 10 assists. I believe Yamal has significant potential to develop further and become Barcelona's top star. Florian Wirtz (Germany, 21 years old) Florian Wirtz played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen's historic first Bundesliga title win last May, achieving the feat without losing a single match. Wirtz scored 18 goals and provided 19 assists in 47 matches across all competitions last season. In my opinion, Wirtz has exceptional capabilities and can excel as a right winger, which has drawn the interest of Real Madrid for a potential transfer. Warren Zaïre-Emery (France, 18 years old)Warren Zaïre-Emery made history by becoming the youngest player to play and score for the French national team in over a century. He made his professional debut for Paris Saint-Germain in August 2022, becoming the youngest player in the club's history. Known for his strength and speed with the ball, he shares some attributes with his teammate Kylian Mbappé. Zaïre-Emery provided 7 assists and scored 3 goals in 43 matches for PSG across all competitions last season. Jérémy Doku (Belgium, 22 years old) In my opinion, it is challenging for any player to become a star in a top team coached by Pep Guardiola in a single season, but Jérémy Doku managed to do so. After transferring from Rennes to Manchester City last year, his speed, strength, and tactical skills helped City win the league title last season. Doku started 21 out of 45 matches for City, scoring 7 goals and providing 10 assists. Xavi Simons (Netherlands, 21 years old) Despite being just 21, Xavi Simons has played for clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, spending around nine years in the renowned La Masia academy. During his time in Barcelona, he became one of the most prominent rising stars due to his versatility as an attacking midfielder and winger, although he did not make an appearance for the first team. Simons made his professional debut with PSG and later moved to PSV on loan, followed by another loan spell at RB Leipzig. He scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists in 43 matches for the German club across all competitions. After 14 international caps, he scored his first goal for the national team in a 4-0 friendly win against Iceland. Source Source

The Best Players in the Top Five Leagues: 2023-2024 Season

The last football season saw intense competition among clubs in the top five European leagues, marked by high excitement and remarkable performances from players across all positions. According to the statistics site "Score90," here are the top five players in each position for the 2023-2024 season: Best 5 Central Defenders in the Top Five European Leagues: 2023-2024 - Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid, Spain) - William Saliba (Arsenal, England) - Alessandro Bastoni (Inter Milan, Italy) - Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool, England) - Gabriel Magalhães (Arsenal, England) In my opinion, Antonio Rüdiger deserves the title of the best defender. He performed excellently, stopping top strikers like Osimhen, Haaland, and Harry Kane in crucial matches. He led Real Madrid to the best defense in La Liga and helped secure the Champions League title without a single defeat. Best 5 Goalkeepers in the Top Five European Leagues: 2023-2024 - Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund, Germany) - Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa, England) - Alisson Becker (Liverpool, England) - Andriy Lunin (Real Madrid, Spain) - Unai Simón (Athletic Bilbao, Spain) I believe Gregor Kobel deserves the best goalkeeper award. He had an outstanding season, helping Borussia Dortmund reach the final stages of competitions. Best 5 Wingers in the Top Five European Leagues: 2023-2024 - Vinícius Júnior (Real Madrid, Spain) - Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain/Real Madrid, France) - Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur, England) - Rafael Leão (AC Milan, Italy) - Iñaki Williams (Athletic Bilbao, Spain) - Phil Foden (Manchester City, England) - Bukayo Saka (Arsenal, England) - Rodrygo (Real Madrid, Spain) - Mohamed Salah (Liverpool, England) - Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich, Germany) Vinícius Júnior deserves to be recognized as the best winger in the world. He scored many crucial goals that led Real Madrid to win various titles. Best 5 Forwards in the Top Five European Leagues: 2023-2024 - Harry Kane (Bayern Munich, Germany) - Erling Haaland (Manchester City, England) - Lautaro Martínez (Inter Milan, Italy) - Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid, Spain) - Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart, Germany) I believe Erling Haaland is the best forward. Despite not having the season he was expected to, he remains a scoring machine, facing the toughest defenders and scoring against the best goalkeepers. SOURCE SOURCE

Florentino Pérez: The Greatest President in Football History

Having been the architect of Real Madrid's successes for over 20 years, the powerful president Florentino Pérez has become one of the most influential figures in Spain across sports, economics, and politics. His leadership has turned Real Madrid into a global reference point on all levels. Pérez has held the presidency of the club in two different periods: the first from 2000 to 2006, and the second from 2009 to the present. The First Era: A Disappointment In my opinion, the first era was a failure. Pérez relied on bringing the world's top stars to Real Madrid to dominate most of the competitions, but this project did not bear fruit despite the team having a tremendous group of legends such as Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo Nazário, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, and David Beckham, along with Raúl González and Iker Casillas. The team only managed to win the Champions League in 2002 and La Liga the following year, while struggling in other seasons with declining results and the absence of desired success. One of the main reasons for not capitalizing on that generation of players was Pérez's catastrophic decisions, such as hiring unqualified coaches who were mostly unknown to the fans. This indicated poor choices for managing such a star-studded team. Moreover, he dismissed Vicente del Bosque, who had achieved historic successes with the team. The Second Era: Historic Successes In the second era, which began 15 years ago, I believe Pérez managed to correct his previous mistakes by recruiting the right elements to help the team succeed. As a result, Pérez led Real Madrid to remarkable achievements during this period. It began with José Mourinho establishing a solid team that managed to break the dominance of Pep Guardiola's historic Barcelona team, achieving the historic 100-point league title in the 2011/2012 season. Successes followed through well-thought-out decisions, primarily credited to Pérez. During the second era, the team won the Champions League six times, along with numerous other titles. One of Pérez's most significant decisions was firing Rafael Benítez and appointing Zinedine Zidane as his successor in the middle of the 2015/2016 season. Zidane led the team to a historic achievement by winning the Champions League three consecutive times. The second era of Pérez also saw the rise of young stars, with the club's recent policy clearly focusing on building a team of young players such as Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Federico Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Güler, and Brahim Díaz. The club added tremendous strength by signing Kylian Mbappé and the young Brazilian Endrick. When Pérez's administration signed players like Vinícius, Rodrygo, and Valverde years ago, no one had heard of these names or imagined that Júnior would compete strongly for the Ballon d'Or this season, while major European clubs would vie to sign the other two. Despite this, the second era is not without its mistakes, which were overshadowed by the team's significant successes under Pérez's management. The decision to bring back Carlo Ancelotti also proved fortunate, as the Italian's second stint saw unexpected achievements, even for the most optimistic Real Madrid fans. Unmatched Success Pérez is indeed the most successful president in the history of the Spanish giant, with a total of 33 titles, one more than the legendary Santiago Bernabéu. These include six La Liga titles and six Champions League titles out of the club's record 14. Moreover, the basketball team has dominated Europe for more than a decade. In addition to titles, Pérez managed to turn Real Madrid into a globally respected brand while maintaining its identity and model based on members and shareholders. He redeveloped the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which has been renovated, modernized, and equipped with a retractable roof to host various sports and cultural events. He also developed the Valdebebas training center, which will soon bear his name. In conclusion, while the historic name and value of Real Madrid undoubtedly aid any individual in achieving their goals, there is no denying that Florentino Pérez's vision and leadership have been instrumental in propelling the club to unprecedented heights.
